Families of a nine- and a ten-year-old boy, former best friends, are suing each other over possession of a David Beckham jersey.
Seems that after one of the Hawaii preseason games, Beckham’s attention was caught by the boys’ sign that said, “Go Beckham” and “Aloha Beckham.” So he came up and handed his jersey to one of the kids.
Of course, both boys were thrilled at first. They originally agreed to share custody, rotating possession on a weekly basis.
And now here’s where things get interesting.
The next day, the parents of the nine-year-old showed up and gave a different jersey to the ten-year-old, saying they knew somebody who’d been in the locker room and gotten a signed shirt. But, according to the older kid’s parents, the signature looked forged. Then the younger kid’s parents said the original jersey belonged to their son, and he shouldn’t have to share.
So, of course, the older kid sued.
Younger kid’s argument: Beckham handed the jersey to him.
Older kid’s argument: He was the one who stood there the entire game and held the sign that got Beckham’s attention. The younger kid didn’t do squat.
Both think they are the sole deserving owners. And so it goes to court.
